Bhí an cúigiú Féile Bliantúil na Seiteanna 2017 ar siúl i Óstan Clan Rí i Leitir Ceanainn ó Aoine Mean Fhomhair 15 go dtí an Domhnach Mean Fhomhair 17.

The 5th Annual Letterkenny Set Dancing Festival in aid of Peru Children’s Charity took place in the Clanree Hotel from Friday September 15th to Sunday 17th. Music for the opening Céilí on Friday was provided by the local Duntally Céilí Band who also supplied the music for the closing Céilí on Sunday afternoon. The Duntally are growing greatly in popularity and are ranked among the best in the Country. Another of the county’s top Céilí Bands, the Glenside, provided their unique style of lively traditional dance music at the Céilí on Saturday night. The Saturday Céilí was followed by an hour of social dancing to the wonderful sound of Sinéad and Alex Black. Local dance masters, Jerry McNulty and Mary Rose Gallagher hosted a very well attended two-hand dance workshop on Saturday morning and the Set Dancing Workshop was given by well-known Set Dance Teacher, Gearóid Mulrooney on Saturday afternoon which was attended by 60 eager learners.

Including some €400 personal donations the weekend raised €3,600 for Peru Children’s Charity and a raffle at the Saturday Night Céilí raised €660 towards relief for the Inishowen flood victims.

Over 200 attended at both the Friday and Saturday Céilithe and despite competition from the All Ireland Football Final, more than 150 attended the Sunday afternoon céilí. Attendees came from all nine counties of Ulster, all five counties of Connaught as well as from Louth, Dublin, Laois, Cork, Westmeath Longford and others not notified to the organisers. In addition, there were attendees from England, Scotland, Belgium, Germany and a young enthusiastic couple from Japan.

A selection of photographs from the weekend can be viewed on the website www.letterkennysets.eu as well as information on the 2018 weekend which takes place over the third weekend in September.

Many people contributed to the success of the weekends, all those who attended, those who promoted the weekend in their own localities; Fear an Tí - Clement Gallagher; the various band members;  Gearóid Mulrooney from Oranmore who, as he does every year without compensation of any kind, brought a bus load of dancers and directed the Set Dance Workshop; Jerry McNulty and Mary Rose Gallagher who, as they do every year free gratis, directed the Two-Hand Dance Workshop; Fintan Houston who was ever present during the organising and the running of the weekend, Martin and Reg who took the photographs and Clann Uí Ruanaí who helped with raffles and transport and the many little organisational challenges that arise. Of major importance to the success of all the five Festivals to date are the management and staff of the wonderful Clanree Hotel. Their facilities, the food, the accommodation and, above all, the management and staff who, without exception, were efficient, helpful, courteous, professional and always smiling.

The Director of Peru Children’s Charity, Michael Murphy (well known to Killybegs folks whom he lived among for so long) attended on Friday to thank all those who had helped and to give an account of where the funds raised are spent. Michael himself funds all his own expenses, travel, accommodation etc., entirely from his own resources so as not to diminish in any way the funds - 100% of which go directly to the Charity.

Maybe you would like to attend in 2018. Please see www.letterkenntsets.eu.

I pray God's Blessing on all of you and I look forward to seeing you all again next September
